Pilot Unit

The Pilot 1001™ system uses a standard geometry for the ceramic elements. Multiple ceramic elements will be used for testing.Additionally, with the selected geometries, the pilot unit will gather the data that directly supports engineering derivation to scale up to a production unit for a given environment's performance requirements.

System Description

E3 Fluid Recovery Pilot 1001 Unit™is a pre-fabricated, shop-assembled and ready-to-use, automatic, skid-mounted ceramic filter system. The system is constructed of SS304.

The Pilot unit is self-contained, giving users the capacity to process various streams at transmembrane pressures up to 20 bar, and operate at temperatures up to approximately 80C (180F); chemical cleaning of the membranes be performed using the built-in software.  Built-in sensors and software will aid in the collection of data for pilot studies and research. In order to accurately monitor flow, a minimum conductivity of 20 uS/cm is recommended for the liquid streams being tested.  Limitations on the type of streams that can be processed are fully delineated in the operating manual.

The system panel has a visible Emergency Stop button conspicuously located. The operators touch screen interface also has a software "E-stop" button.

The Pilot unit has a skid has a dimension of approximately of  85.5" / 2.17 m length x 79.01" / 2 m height x 30.87" / .78 m. The system is will be fabricated with a stainless steel containment "tub" with a manual drain. The unit is skid mounted on casters and be capable of being moved by one person; it will fit through a typical laboratory door. The Feed tank is located on the unit can also operate as a Clean in Place (CIP) tank.

E3 Fluid Recovery's Pilot unit features an innovative design for multiple ceramic modules. This is the QUICK-FIT™ system. This allows for the quick replacement of modules that contain different sized ceramic elements and geometries. The QUICK-FIT™ modules contain a tube sheet and retaining plates that accommodate the ceramics listed above. The QUICK-FIT™ modules are secured in place through a Gruvlok  / hingelok coupling.

This system has a optional a low pressure shell tube heat exchanger with an optional 18,000 btu/hr self contained 480V 3 phase chiller. The self-contained chiller unit can be co-located next to the Pilot skid and attached with NPT flexible hoses to the Pilot unit. The chiller unit is 24"l x 30"W x 30"H. Domestic water supply can alternatively be used in place of the chiller. See Figure 4 for the selected co-located chiller unit.

The AI AOS ™ control system is a closed control system that is managed through an operator touch screen panel.  The operator's touch screen provides an interface for the initial system setup, health, status, control functions, alarms, and system alert messages. When in fully automatic mode, the AI AOS™ can make decisions to adjust the performance of the system, perform housekeeping tasks to maintain the system.

The AI AOS™ control system is designed with fault tolerance, fault recovery and fail-safe algorithms to ensure the system operates within designed parameters to prevent damage to the system.  The operation can be fully automatic, operator initiated, or fully manual.

In manual, the operator has the ability to manually activate valves, change system parameters and control functions of the system. The system is designed to alert the user when operating in manual modes or when a component is out of automatic. For the Pilot unit, the system will be able to select various ceramic geometries in the setup for use in the operation. The selection of  particular ceramic element geometry will automatically change the other control parameters for the safe operation of the Pilot unit.

In the fully automatic mode, the operator can schedule startup and shutdown times; the system will subsequently operate without any operator intervention.  Even CIPs can be scheduled. The system supports remote access for monitoring and remote control.
